London, ON – The Mustangs men's soccer team fought in the heat and lost 1-0 against the Brock Badgers Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Field.
"It was a game that was not going one way or the other. I think a 0-0 tie would have been a fair result given the conditions today - the heat, both teams were pretty flat- but all it takes is one giveaway. It was a great goal to be fair and sometimes that's soccer" said Parker Seymour, Mustangs Associate Head Coach. We gave a really bad ball away and the player is tired. I do not blame him it is just a tough position to play in and unfortunately it had to happen at the end there.
Although the Mustangs outshot the Badgers 7-1, the first half ended tied 0-0. Coming close to a few opportunities they were unable to convert to take the lead.
Both teams began second half reenergized hoping to dominant the field and score. It came down to the wire, in the last 30 seconds of additional time the Badger's number 9 Jared Agyemang fires a top shelf shot, allowing Brock to take the win home.
"Defensively we were not good enough in the second half and too many chances were given up. With 30 seconds left in the game it is frustrating to give them a break like that" said Mustangs goalkeeper Kody Thomson "We have to be engaged for 90 minutes. The problem with this team and it has been for the past few is we have little mental lapses that end up costing us the game."
Looking forward to tomorrow "we are going to be physically tired with such short rest, so tomorrow will be more about how we approach things emotionally and physically we have to give everything we have. From there whatever happens, happens, said Seymour.
The Mustangs head to the University of Waterloo on Sunday at the Warrior Field for a 3:15pm kick off.
