Western Falls 3-0 to Brock in the Final Game of the Regular Season

London, ON - The Western Mustangs faced the Brock Badgers at home on Saturday night in their final game of the regular season. The Badgers beat the Mustangs in three sets.

Evan Cranshaw led the Mustangs in kills for the night with 9. Brady Fidler, Ryan Scott, Evan Cranshaw, Jack Cochran all earned a service ace. Nathan Phelps led in the Mustangs in digs with 9 while Ryan Scott and Gianfranco Sartor led both teams in blocks with 5.

The Badgers took the first two points of the night, but a kill from Brady Fidler earned the Mustangs their first serve of the night. The Badgers answered back and quickly grew their lead to 6-2. A kill from Gianfranco Sartor regained the serve for the Mustangs with a score of 7-3. A kill from Evan Cranshaw brought the score to 8-4, but the Badgers continued to grow their lead to 10-5. A big double block from Ryan Scott and Gianfranco Sartor shortened Brock's lead to 10-6. Another big block by the Mustangs, this time by Brady Fidler and Jackson Bere, brought the score even closer with a score of 11-8. A service ace from Ryan Scott helped the Mustangs tie the set at 11. The set was tied again at 12 before the Mustangs took their first lead of the night with a score of 13-12. The Badgers tied the set at 13, but the Mustangs retook their lead 14-13. Brock tied the set at 14 before retaking a 16-14 lead. The Mustangs came out hot after the technical timeout as they quickly earned a point through a smart dump from Josiah Esau. Kills from Evan Cranshaw and Ryan Scott shortened the Badgers' lead to 19-18. It wasn't enough to slow the Badgers as they continued to grow their lead to 23-19. A big kill from Evan Cranshaw helped the Mustangs bring the score to 23-21. Brock went on to win the set 25-22 and took a 1-0 lead in the match. 


The Badgers took the first point of the second set, but a big double block from the Mustangs tied it up. Brock quickly earned a 7-1 lead, before a kill from Brady Fidler regained the serve for Western. It wasn't enough to slow the Badgers as they grew their lead to 10-3. A kill from Evan Cranshaw gave Jack Cochran the serve who went on to earn a service ace which brought the score to 11-6. A massive triple block from Evan Cranshaw, Ryan Scott, and Gianfranco Sartor followed by a service ace from Evan Cranshaw brought the score to 13-8. Another triple block from the Mustangs (Ryan Scott, Gianfranco Sartor, and Brady Fidler) regained the serve for the Mustangs as they shortened the Badgers' lead to 15-10. A kill from Gianfranco Sartor allowed the Mustangs to shorten the Badgers' lead further to 16-12. A kill from Brady Fidler regained the serve for the Mustangs with a score of 18-13. The Mustangs continued to slowly chip away at the Badgers' lead as they brought the set to 22-16. Ultimately it wasn't enough as the Badgers went on to win the set 25-17, extending their lead in the match to 2-0.

The two teams split the first two points of the set before Brock took an early 2-1 lead. The Mustangs tied the set at 3 after a kill from Jackson Bere. The Mustangs took a 4-3 lead after a double block from Jackson Bere and Jack Cochran. The Badgers tied the set, but a kill from Brady Fidler regained a 5-4 lead for the Mustangs. A service ace from Brady Fidler followed by another double block from Jackson Bere and Jack Cochran extended the Mustangs' lead to 7-4. Brock tied the set at 7 before taking a 8-7 lead. A smart tip from Evan Cranshaw followed by a kill from Gianfranco Sartor allowed the Mustangs to tie the set at 9. The Mustangs retook a 10-9 lead before the Badgers tied it at 10. The set was tied again at 11 before the Mustangs took a 13-11 lead in the set. After a kill from Gianfranco Sartor, Rhys Matheson was substituted in to serve with a score of 14-12. The Mustangs led 16-14 heading into the technical timeout. The Badgers tied the set at 16, but the Mustangs were quick to retake a 17-16 lead. The set remained a battle as it was tied at 17 and again at 18. The Badgers went on to take a 21-18 point lead before a kill from Gianfranco Sartor regained the serve for the Mustangs. Brock went on to win the set 25-20 and won the match 3-0.
