Windsor, ON - The Mustangs travelled to face off against the Windsor Lancers in their final road game of the regular season. The Lancers ultimately won the match 3-1.
Brady Fidler led the Mustangs in kills, service aces, and digs with 12, 2, and 11 respectively. Jackson Bere led the Mustangs in blocks for the afternoon with 5.
The Mustangs took the first point of the afternoon, but the Lancers were the first to take a two point lead with a score of 4-2. A smart tip from Evan Cranshaw and a big kill from Gianfranco Sartor allowed the Mustangs tie the set at 4. Jackson Bere was quick to give the Mustangs a 5-4 lead with a service ace. A double block from Jackson Bere and Gianfranco Sartor grew the Mustangs' lead to 9-7. The Lancers struggled to slow the Mustangs' momentum as Western led the set 14-10 heading into a timeout. After an exchange of service errors, Western maintained their lead heading into the technical timeout with a score of 16-12. A kill from Ryan Scott and a service ace from Evan Cranshaw gave the Mustangs a 6 point lead with a score of 19-13. The Lancers tried to shorten the Mustangs' lead but kills from Brady Fidler and Jackson Bere as well as a block from Jackson Bere maintained a 22-16 lead heading into the last few points of the set. A big double block from Ryan Scott and Evan Cranshaw gave the Mustangs a 25-18 victory allowing the Mustangs to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set began with an early 1-1 tie between the Mustangs and the Lancers. The Lancers were quick to gain momentum as they gained a 5-4 lead. The Lancers continued to grow their lead to 9-5 as the Mustangs called a time out. Regardless of a kill from Gianfranco Sartor, the Lancers continued to control the set as they led the set 12-7. The Mustangs began to shorten the Lancers' lead, but the University of Windsor still led 16-11 heading into the technical time out. The Mustangs came out hot after the time out as they were quick to shorten the Lancers lead to 16-13. Kills from Ryan Scott and Gianfranco Sartor brought the Lancer's lead to 20-16 heading into the late part of the set. Jack Cochran was substituted in to serve with the scoreboard showing a 21-17 lead for the Lancers. The Mustangs continued to chip away at the Lancers' lead as they brought the score to 23-20. A big block from Jackson Bere brought the score to 24-21, but it wasn't enough to stop the Lancers as they went on to win the second set 25-21 tying the match at 1.
Western took an early 2-1 lead in the third set after a kill from Gianfranco Sartor. The set was tied at 3 before the Lancers took a 4-3 lead. The Lancers were quick to charge ahead to a 8-3 lead as the Mustangs called a timeout. Western began to slowly eat away at the Lancers' lead as they brought the score to 11-7. The Mustangs brought the set back within 2 points with a score of 13-11 after a kill from Evan Cranshaw and strong serving from Josiah Esau. The Lancers continued to lead 16-13 heading into the technical timeout. A service ace from Brady Fidler tied the set at 17. The Lancers led 23-20 heading into another Mustangs' timeout. Brady Fidler earned a kill as the teams returned to the court, but the Lancers went on to win the set 25-21. The Lancers took a 2-1 lead in the match.Â

A service ace from Gianfranco Sartor regained a 4-3 lead for the Mustangs and a kill from Jackson Bere extended the lead to 5-3. The Lancers tied the set at 5, but another kill from Jackson Bere regained the lead for the Mustangs. A kill from Evan Cranshaw extended Western's lead to 8-6. The Mustangs capitalized on errors made by the Lancers as they continued to grow their lead to 11-8. Kills from Brady Fidler and Jackson Bere allowed Western to continue to lead the set with a score of 14-11. The Lancers tied the set at 15 and led the Mustangs 16-15 heading into the technical timeout. The Lancers continued to lead the set 21-16 heading into the late part of the set. A kill from Brady Fidler brought the score to 22-18. The Lancers went on to win the fourth set 25-19 taking the match 3-1.
The Mustangs return home on February 14th at 8:00pm for another game against the Windsor Lancers. Come out to Alumni Hall to support the men as they hope to earn a win in their second game against the Lancers.
