Box Score St. Catherines, Ont. – The Western Mustangs played their last regular season game of the 2019-20 campaign Saturday night in St. Catherines. The Mustangs took on Brock University in their last contest before the OUA playoffs.

David Ovsjannikov started in net for Western while Mario Culina manned the Brock net. The first period proved to be a solid one for both men in net, as the majority was played without a scoring play for either time. The Badgers would finally break the ice late in the period on a powerplay goal by Skylar Pachecho.

The first period ended with Brock taking a lead into the second period. The two teams had played a close game in the first with Western registering 12 shots on goal, compared to 13 for the Badgers.

Western continued having chances on offence in the second period but was unable to solve the Brock goaltender. The Badgers extended their lead early in the period. The Mustangs would claw their back into the game with a goal of their own about halfway through the second frame. Alex Turko registered the goal, his fourth of the season. Anthony Stefano earned the sole assist on the goal.

Just as it seemed the game would be going into the third period with just a one-goal difference, Brock would push their lead even further. In the last three minutes of the period, the Badgers would get a pair of goals. The first goal came from Jared Marino, while the second came from Christian Girhiny.

The pair of goals pushed the Brock lead to three goals, a deficit that prove insurmountable for Western. The Mustangs tried their hardest but were unable to complete the comeback in a relatively uneventful third period. Though the game ended in a loss, Western had a slight advantage in shots on goal with 30 at the end of the contest, compared to Brock's 29.

Though this game served as an unfortunate end to the regular season, The Mustangs managed to make their way into the playoffs. The most important part of the season has just begun.
