Waterloo, ON – Western's women's soccer team hit the road Sunday afternoon as they travelled to Waterloo to take on the Golden Hawks, and then returned Wednesday night to take on the Warriors.
The ball was dropped at 1pm at University Stadium on Sunday. Laurier opened the scoring in the 18
th minute, and despite their chances the purple and white weren't able to equalize before the half.
The Golden Hawks defended their lead throughout the second half and had a chance to double it as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 74
th minute. The shot was saved by Western's Samantha St. Croix, keeping the game within reach for the Mustangs.
Western put on the offensive pressure as they looked to get on the board, but ultimately saw their last chances fall wide for their second loss of the season.
The Mustangs bounced back Wednesday night against the Warriors, taking all three points in a 2-0 win.
The game was scoreless up until the 76
th minute when Mackenzie Bilotta found the back of the net. Katrina Giantsopoulos then netted her first of the season in the 90
th minute to secure the win for Western. The Mustangs improve to 4-2-1 on the season.
The Mustangs will continue their playoff push at home Saturday afternoon as they play a rematch against the Warriors at 1pm on Mustangs Field.
