London, ON - The Rink Rat
 
Dr. Ron "Whipper" Watson has written his life story about his 55-year coaching career, in the new book 'The Rink Rat', out now. A self-described "little, lefthanded, redhead of a single mother from the wrong side of the tracks grew up hoping to be a high school P.E. teacher. Little did he imagine the unimaginable, a professorship at one of the oldest, highly respected universities in Canada" - reproduced from the back cover of 'The Rink Rat' book cover.
 
His book, which includes a lot of Mustangs Hockey History, will also help to support the Western Mustangs Men's Hockey Team as a fundraiser, as all proceeds from the sale of this book will go towards the team.
 
In the book acknowledgements, Ron Watson talks about how important it is to him to help preserve the Purple and Proud Mustangs Hockey history.
 
We spoke with Ron about how this book shares his story, and his experiences. "I wanted to tell my life story, a large part of which involved building the Mustangs hockey programme under very difficult circumstances, and many stories about Mustang players after they graduated." – Ron Watson.

The Rink Rat links hockey at Western from its inception in 1906 to the CIS Championships in 2020.
