Western falls 4-1 to Windsor

11/6/2021 6:06:00 PM

Box Score WINDSOR, ON - Following their season opening victory, Western headed on the road to face Windsor in their first back-to-back. After a slow start in the first but an impressive pair of periods to follow, Western lost 4-1.

The score is deceiving as it was largely a goalie duel through 2 frames with Windsor maintaining a 2-0 lead through the majority of the game.

Western didn't manage to find their way onto the scoreboard until halfway through the third period. An Austin Osmanski cross ice pass to Brett Jacklin cut the score in half. The Mustangs continued to push but could not solve the Lancer netminder Noah Giesbrecht.

Jacklin had a nose for the net and was a constant threat throughout the game. His play both offensively and defensively helped keep Western within striking distance over the course of 60 minutes.

Once the puck dropped to start the second period the Mustangs turned into a different team, controlling play offensively and generating chances in close. The Lancers had to scramble on their heels to outlast the Mustangs relentless push offensively.

Western finished the game with 47 shots on goal but penalty trouble held them back from even further sustained offensive pressure. Winger Ethan Szypula had 2 stick infraction penalties that slowed the Mustangs momentum.

Only the second Windsor goal came on the power play. The Mustangs always managed to get their way back into the game. Even as the score clock dwindled and the game got scrappier.

Mustangs goaltender Dylan Myskiw made an impressive debut for the Mustangs, stopping 23 of 27 shots when 2 only beat him after the game was lost. He kept the Mustangs in the game early as they tried to find their footing.

The Mustangs look to maintain their pressure and get back in the win column Friday, November 12 when they visit the Waterloo Warriors. Fans can watch the game on OUA.tv.
