London, ON – For the second night in a row, the Mustangs and Algoma Thunderbirds met at Alumni Hall and Western took a second win, this time 98-49.
A hot start thrust the Mustangs into an early lead as they were up 23-8 after the 1
st quarter.
"I think we adjusted to some of the things we worked on in our shoot around, ball screens we created a lot of good looks and we really shared the ball well," said Mustangs Head Coach Nate McKibbon "That's the second day we've had more assists than turnovers, that's a good weekend for us,"
By half time the Mustangs had built up a substantial lead, 43-22 and then extended that even further in the 3
rd adding 28 more to their lead.
In the 4
th quarter, 1
st year Maddie Picton poured on the offence to finish out the win.
"I'm so overly aggressive, so I am working on trying to control myself and I got behind on fouls a little early," said Picton "I call myself a bit of a finisher and think I ended up closing the game pretty well."
The early pair of wins for the Mustangs is where they hoped to be after opening weekend but there is still work to be done but now they have a nearly two week break before their next game.
"It's kind of funny, it's like hurry up and wait now that we have started the season," said McKibbon "I like the fact that we have a couple of weeks to prepare for a really good Waterloo team."
Even though it is early, the Mustangs seem to be gelling well.
"I think for a young team we're doing pretty well and we really gel," said Picton "We've been hanging out a lot outside of practices and I think that's really important for our team bonding,"
The Mustangs next game is set for November 19
th at 6pm. Fans can watch the action on OUA.tv
