London, ON - The Western Mustangs join the soccer community in mourning the loss of former Men's Soccer Coach Rock Basacco.

Basacco passed away surrounded by family on December 24.

"Rock was an incredible person and coach. He had an incredibly positive impact on generations of players. He showed an amazing level of organization and professionalism as a coach." said Martin Painter, current Mustangs Head Coach "He was also a generous and selfless leader. One memory that stands out is the Thanksgiving Dinners he would provide and serve to the entire team each year."

Basacco retired in 2016 after 21 years as Western Mustangs men's head soccer coach. The Mustangs never missed the playoffs when he was head coach, winning 7 OUA championships, as well back-to-back national championships in 1998 and 1999.

"Rock was a role model and teacher to so many. He will leave a lasting impact on our program at Western and in the soccer community through all the lives he touched and through the example he provided." said Painter.
