Box Score
Toronto, ON  - The Mustangs hit the road for their first away game of the season Friday night, falling in straight sets to the York Lions.

Both boasting 2-1 records coming into this game and not having played each other since 2019, it was York who managed to come away with the victory with 25-21, 25-19, and 25-20 set wins.

Jason Guy led the way with 12 kills on the night for Western, while Jonah Millard followed with 7.

The two sides exchanged points to start, with the Lions in the lead at 5-3, before a Blake Fenwick block got Western back within one. Fenwick followed it up with a kill on his next point to tie things up.

The hosts managed to secure a small lead at 14-10, which saw Western call for timeout. Jason Guy came out with a huge kill after the timeout to reduce to lead to three.

A patient block by Fenwick moments later energized the Mustangs side who sat behind at two at 16-14. Despite the effort, the purple and white couldn't climb their way back into this set as it went the way of York 25-21.

The Lions kept their momentum rolling as they got out to an early 4-1 lead to start the second, with Western's point coming off of a York error. The hosts eventually doubled up on the 'Stangs at 16-8, forcing the purple and white's second timeout of the set.

Despite saving off set-point two times off Fenwick's serve, the purple and white fell 25-19 in set two.

Fighting to stay alive, Western kept things close to start the third. A kill from Jonah Millard got the 'Stangs within one at 6-5, before the hosts started to pull away yet again. Winning five of the next six points, York found a substantial lead at 11-6.

With a point from Guy sending Josiah Esau to the service line, Western managed to reduce the lead at 13-11, and again at 15-14 off a Millard kill.

Starting to find their footing and with Guy serving, a Fenwick kill tied things up at 15 for the 'Stangs as their offense started to fire quickly.

Two straight aces put the Lions back in front at 20-17, as the Mustangs called a timeout with hopes to force more sets. Unfortunately, Western couldn't mount a comeback, dropping the third set 25-20 and the game along with it.

Western drops to 2-2 on the season with the loss, while the Lions improve to 3-1.

The Mustangs will face York in a rematch tomorrow night in Toronto. Game-time is 6pm with the action being available to watch on OUA.tv
