Box Score London ON- Your Western Mustangs triumph 4-2 against the Waterloo Warriors.
The beginning of the period starts off with a rush to the net from Waterloo's Kassidy McCarthy, making it a 1-0 game with 1 minute into the first period, a very quick start. The Mustangs respond back to this goal right away by evening the score to 1-1. Western's Kennedy Ward, from Brooke DiCicco and Haylie Kirkpatrick, get the puck in the back of the Warrior's net by a shot from the point. After this thrilling action, the Mustangs put continue to put immense pressure on the Warrior's as their forecheck doesn't give the Warrior's any time to make a play out of their zone. At the end of an exciting first period, the score remains tied at 1-1, with no penalties during the period from either teams, quite a contrast from the Mustangs last game against the Windsor Lancers.
The beginning of the second period starts off with great back and forth action. With a double minor taken by Western's Emma Campbell for boarding roughing and another one taken by Warriors Carly Orth for head contact, the Warrior's Keiara Raitt tips the puck into the Mustangs net which puts the Warriors on the board again, the score is now 2-1 Warrior's. Some great, equal battles from both teams are happening in the second period, but towards the end the Warriors put on more pressure as they have many more goal opportunities than Western. Towards the end of the third period, Emma Campbell takes another double minor for head contact, despite this, Western's Adeline Kristoff, on a short-handed breakaway, ties the score up 2-2, finishing off the second period on a good note. This period saw many penalties from both the Mustangs and the Warriors, with three double minor penalties, two of which came from the Mustangs.
The beginning of the third period has the same back and forth action with pressure being put on by both teams. The tension of the tied score has both the Mustangs and the Warriors fighting for a goal to take the lead. With half of the third period left, the Warriors take a penalty giving Western a one man advantage, but they don't capitalize on the power play. Nearing the end of the third period, the score remains even at 2-2, but the Mustangs take the lead from a scramble at the front of the net. Western's Madeline DesRosiers gets the puck in the net to get the Mustangs up 3-2. After this goal, the Warriors goalie, Kara Mark, is pulled. Western's Haylie Kirkpatrick capitalizes on this as she scores an empty net goal with a minute left in the third period, putting the Mustangs up 4-2.
An eventful game comes to an end as the Warriors put up a good fight against the Mustangs, but the Mustangs take the win.
