Western Returns to Play With a Strong Win Over Brock

2/10/2022 9:13:00 PM

Box Score ST. CATHERINES, ON - Western and Brock both return to play after the latest OUA COVID shutdown. Thankfully, this time it was merely a pause in play. Western won the contest 3-1 with three separate goal scorers and stellar goaltending.

The two teams used the first period to knock the rust off after the season delay. Once they got their feet under them the game opened up.

Western opened the scoring against Brock with a high-slot wrist shot from Madi Desrosier.

Brock immediately knotted the game back at 1. This proved to be goaltender Kaitlyn Booth's only blemish on the evening. She saved 25 of 26 shots and was a trustworthy netminder for the entirety of the game and made timely saves to shift the momentum in favour of the Mustangs

Powered by Booths goaltending, Brooke Dicicco scored the game winning goal later in the second period.

The Mustangs were able to control play in the offensive zone and provide plenty of scoring chances from the slot. Although they went 0/2 on the power play the team only committed one penalty and controlled play at 5 on 5.

Western was sure-footed in the neutral and defensive zone which contributed to the low scoring nature of the game. They were able to capitalize on Brock's mistakes and win their first game back.

Tacking on an empty net goal to seal the game late in the third, scored by Alissa Wouda, Western collected their first win of 2022.

Western looks to even the season series against Brock at 2-2 on Saturday February 12 at 4 pm at home
