St. Catharines, ON – The Mustangs traveled to St. Catharines for the OUA West Final against Brock on Wednesday night.
Western was coming off a big win over Waterloo in the semi-final last weekend.
Both teams traded chances through the opening half of the 1st period but it was Brock that would get the first tally right at the midway point of the period and hold the lead going into the break.
In the second period, the Mustangs would get a powerplay but the play ended up in their own end and Brock would net a shorthanded marker to put Western down by a pair of goals going into the 2nd intermission.
Going into the third period, Western still felt like they were within striking distance, but 27 seconds in Brock would convert again as Cassidy Maplethorpe scored to extend the Badgers lead to 3-0.
Western put in a full-force effort in the 2nd half of the 3rd but wasn't able to crack the Badgers goal.
Kaitlyn Booth made 30 saves on the night as she was under pressure all night long and kept the Mustangs in the game at several points.
With the lose, the Mustangs season comes to an end.
The year saw many ups and downs, starts and finishes, the group will largely stay in tack and return next season, looking to return to this stage next season and beyond.
