GUELPH, ON - Western and Guelph played 67 minutes of regulation and overtime, which still wasn't enough before The Mustangs walked away with the 2-1 shootout win.
The Mustangs were looking to redeem themselves after their 7-0 loss the previous night against the same Gryphon's team.
Coming out of the gates strong was paramount for Western in this low scoring affair, they achieved this as they limited the offensive firepower of Guelph.
Dylan Myskiw was a key to victory for the Mustangs, stopping 30 of 31 shots across OT and regulation and stopping all 3 shooters he faced in the shootout.
Guelph was able to break the 0-0 tie first mid way through the second, after already having a goal disallowed. The Mustangs were steadfast and limited Guelph from here.
Alex Turco tied the game at 1 a piece for the Mustangs early in the third speaking for the teams ability to regroup and create their own momentum.
The Mustangs battled for the gritty win that saw all 18 skaters being utilized and relied upon during important minutes.
Western's Shane Bulitka, a multi-sport athlete, was dominant at both ends of the ice creating time and space for his teammates throughout the entirety of the game.
Bulitka was rewarded for his efforts, not on the score sheet, rather in substantial overtime minutes showcasing his importance to the Mustang roster.
After the scoreless 7 minutes of 3 on 3 overtime the game required a shootout to determine the outcome.
Sean Montgomery was the only shooter of 6 to score and won the game for his team. Securing a playoff spot for the Mustangs.
Western ends the regular season on a high note and is looking to go on a deep playoff run picking up from where they left off in 2019/20.
