London, ON - The Western men's soccer team took home a point in a 0-0 draw against the Brock Badgers. The team looks to gain the full three points in Sunday's rematch.
The game was a tough fought battle, with lots of back and forth play. Western had lots of pressure and played well, but couldn't capitalize in the first half. And Western's goaltender Dino Bontis made some key saves to keep the shutout.
In the second half, defenseman Aidan Bauer Marr was issued a red card in the 58th minute, forcing Western to finish out the game with only 10 players.
Captain Patrick Melo exclaimed it "Didn't go exactly as planned, it's tough when you have a key player like Aidan getting sent off in the second half. We really had to fight through the rest of it, stay organized, and grind out the game."
Head Coach Martin Painter expressed similar views saying "I thought we played really well, I thought Brock was a good team and that it was a good battle. It's tough having to play 35 minutes with 10 men. Sunday's going to be another tough game.
The Mustangs are ready to come prepared and battle it out on Sunday, hoping to steal three points on the road. Melo noted "It will be the same mindset going into Sunday that we had going into this one. The goal is always to go out and play the game we love to play and try to win the game, and that's how we'll approach Sunday."
The Mustangs look to carry the momentum forward heading to Brock this Sunday for an afternoon match in St. Catherine's. Kick-off is at 3:15pm.
