Box Score London, ON- A matchup between the Mustangs and Varsity Blues ends with the Varsity Blues taking the victory, 4-1.
A week ago, we saw these two teams face off and the end game result was 4-1, for the Toronto Varsity Blues. Tonight, the Mustangs are looking to take victory during this game.
Tonight, the Mustangs back-up goalie, Ella Brabrook, takes the net. The first period starts off with the Varsity Blues dominating in the Mustangs end putting pressure on the Mustangs defense. A penalty taken by the Mustangs gives the Varsity Blues an edge up in the game. The Varsity Blues capitalize on this opportunity as they take the opening goal of the game against the Mustangs and advance the score, 1-0. As the Mustangs feel pressurized, they fight back hard and start making plays towards the Varsity Blues net. The later half of the period comes with the Mustangs inching towards a goal to tie up the game. Many scoring opportunities bring the Mustangs closer and closer yet they can't get the puck to the back of the net. As the click winds down to zero in the first period, the Mustangs create an opportunity in the Varsity Blues zone which leads to a 5-hole goal from Elizabeth Gauthier to tie the game up 1-1! With a couple minutes left in the first period, the Varsity Blues are trying to get their lead back, but Brabrook stops everything that comes her way and the period ends with a score of 1-1.
The second period begins with thrilling back and forth action as both teams and anxious to get a lead in this game. The two teams are going end to end bringing the puck all over the ice. The Varsity Blues have possession of the puck in the Mustangs zone during one of these back and forth plays, and they take advantage of this. A rebound shot off of Brabrook allows for the Varsity Blues to take the lead, 2-1. Very shortly after this goal, the Varsity Blues get another one from a scramble at the Mustangs net, advancing their lead to 3-1. The Varsity Blues goalie holds strong as the Mustangs are clearly eager to increase their points this game. With a couple minutes left in the second period, the Varsity Blues put on nail-biting pressure as the Mustangs take a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct just before the end of the period. Fortunately, the Mustangs penalty kill allows for the score to remain 3-1, in favour of the Varsity Blues, which is how the period ends.
The third period calls for the Mustangs to score at least two goals to get themselves back into the game. Shortly after the period starts, the Varsity Blues receive a penalty which gives the Mustangs the opportunity to generate scoring changes. Unfortunately, the penalty is killed off and both teams are back to full strength. With a little over half the third period left, the Varsity Blues bring the puck into the Mustangs zone right through to the back of the Mustangs net, advancing their lead 4-1. With a couple minutes left on the clock, the Mustangs are putting up a hard fight to increase their goals, but the clock winds down to zero.
This well fought battle ends with the Varsity Blues taking the win, 4-1, identical to the game we saw a week ago.
