London, ON – The Mustangs put a full-force effort in but just couldn't find the bounces until late in the game as they dropped a 5-2 loss to the TMU Bold on Wednesday night.
"I thought we had a much more complete effort tonight, I thought we out-chanced them and out-shot them, we just didn't have much luck around the net," said Mustangs Head Coach Clarke Singer "You'd like to have a bit more puck luck, on the 2-0 goal they hit the bar and it goes in, we hit the bar and it went in the corner,"
While the Mustangs out-shot TMU 25-19 through the first two periods of play, it was the Bold who picked up goals in each period to hold a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes.
After TMU picked up a pair of goals in the 3rd period and Western was down 4-0, the Mustangs finally found a bit of space including a nice cross-ice pass from Jack Tucker to Jacob Santerre who picked up his first OUA goal with just under three minutes remaining.
Just under two minutes later Western's Jake Gravelle came off the bench and sent the puck toward the TMU net, Andrew Bruder tipped the puck up and over TMU goaltender Kai Edmonds and then again out of mid-air to bring Western within two.
"We're working so hard, it's nice to be rewarded a bit there with those two goals late," said Singer "It's at least a bit of a good feeling going into tomorrow offensively even though we didn't win."
The Mustangs are back in action tomorrow night (Oct 19) for a 7pm start when the Toronto Varsity Blues come to Thompson Arena. Mustangs fans can buy their tickets at WesternMustangs.ca/tickets and Western students get FREE admission to all regular season on-campus games with the Western ONECard.
