London ON - The Mustangs second home game this weekend ends with a 2-1 win against the York Lions.

Yesterday, the Mustangs successfully took on Toronto Metropolitan University, coming out of the game with a 4-1 win. Tonight, for their second game on home ice, the Mustangs took on the York Lions.

The game starts off with no clear dominator established as the play consistently moves between both teams zones. Although, halfway through the period, the Mustangs open the scoring with a goal from Haylie Kirkpatrick assisted from Alyssa Wouda and Madelaine DesRosiers bringing their team up to a 1-0 lead.

With one minute left in the first period the Mustangs take a two goal lead against the Lions. Alyssa Wouda from Kate Martin and Emma Campbell come together to generate the home teams second goal of the night. The first period ended there.

After the first 15 minute intermission, both teams came back to the ice with energy and determination. The physicality of the play started to increase throughout the second as the Lions were hungry to get a goal on Mustangs goalie, Emma Catalano. Many scoring opportunities arise for both teams, but no capitalization on any of the opportunities as the score remains 2-0 for the Mustangs and shots are 10-4, also in favour of the Mustangs, halfway through the second.

Rich Brown, Mustangs Coach, discusses the physicality of the game, "There were some pretty good checks thrown out there today and we took some penalties but our penalty kill came through for us, which was good."

Catalano from the Mustangs made some amazing saves as the Mustangs have one player in the penalty box reaching the end of the second. The Lions were clearly trying to break her current shut out, but she held her place in her net. The second period ended with score in favour of the home team, 2-0.

The last twenty minutes of the game began with a fast goal from the Lions, which ended Catalano's potential shut out. Lions' Taylor Coward, from Alexa Giantsopoulos, put their team on the scoreboard for the first time during the game and lessened the Mustangs lead from two to one.

The tension rose on the ice when the five minute mark hit in the third and the Mustangs were only up by one goal. The Lions were fighting hard to tie up the game and push to overtime, as they pulled their goalie, Dominique Chuaqui, with two minutes left. Although, the Mustangs did not allow it, and the game ended in their favour 2-1, for their second win in a row at home.

"I thought we competed really hard and we got ahead early which was helpful for us. Certainly our competing level has been high today and I think that was the key for us." says Brown on the overall game.
