London, ON - The Mustangs fall 3-0 to the Queens Gaels in their second home game this weekend.

The Mustangs are coming off a win yesterday against the tough Windsor Lancers and now face off against the Queen's Gaels for their second home game this weekend.

Right off the puck drop, it was clear both teams were eager to get a win from the game. The Gaels came off strong within the first five minutes of the period, but the Mustangs started fighting back hard which created a back and forth game.

The Mustangs drew a penalty halfway through the period for hooking which gave the Gaels an opportunity to open the scoring, which they did capitalize one. A large scramble at the front of the Mustangs net allowed Gaels Sam Wood to push the puck in the back of the Mustangs net.

To respond to this, the Mustangs put a higher level of pressure on the Gaels but need more offence to get a goal and increase their momentum before the end of the first, but weren't able to. The first ended 1-0 for the road team, the Gaels.

The second period started with intense high energy from both teams. The Mustangs had some amazing scoring opportunities in the Gaels zone and vice versa. It was very clear though that the Mustangs were hungry to tie the game.

With five minutes left in the second, the score still remained 1-0 for the Gaels as the Mustangs couldn't quite finish the opportunities they created. On the other hand, the Gaels continued on their high momentum and increased their lead by a goal from Mikayla Cranney. Shortly after, with 50 seconds in the period, the Gaels Emma McKnight got her team their third of the night. The second period ended with a score of 3-0, still in favour of the Gaels.

Mustangs Coach Rich Brown speaks on the two quick Gaels goals and brining the teams momentum back up from that, "We talk all the time about handling shifts in momentum. I don't think that we have quite learned how to handle that well especially when things start to go the other way. It's a learning process for our group but I think they played a really strong game."

The last twenty minutes of the game began with the Mustangs wanting to end Gaels goalie Emma Tennant's shut out and get themselves on the board. A penalty is drawn by the Gaels for interference giving the Mustangs a chance to do just so, but the Gaels kill off the penalty. Shortly after, the Mustangs draw the same penalty which gave the Gaels the ability to dominate, but the Mustangs similarly killed off the penalty.

After the two consecutive penalties, the game goes back to back and forth action with ten minutes left in the game.

Three minutes left in the game, the Mustangs were on a power play and put all their energy into the last bit of the game in hopes to get a point on the board. Unfortunately, the game ends 3-0 as the Gaels took this one.

Brown discusses the game, "I don't think we had our best game, I could feel that early on. They seemed to be a step quicker than us and we have played good hockey up to this point which we can't forget about. We just need to move forward and get ready for next weekend."

The Mustangs next game will be November 17th, against the Nipissing Lakers at 5:00pm. Be sure to check out the live action of that game at OUA.tv.
