Mustangs open home and home with Windsor with a 4-3 win

Windsor ON- Western had one of their best starts of the year, which helped them secure a 4-3 win over Windsor on Friday night to open their weekend against the Lancers.

The first twenty minutes showed an aggressive Western team, with the Mustangs outshooting the Lancers 10-6.

After an early Western penalty kill, forward Tye McSorley opened the scoring to give the Mustangs the lead. Josh Leblanc carried the puck into the Lancers zone before dropping it back to McSorley who beat the Windsor goaltender with a hard shot from the point.

Just moments later, the Mustangs doubled their lead, with Sam Willits getting the first goal of his OUA career.

Mustangs led 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Looking to build on their first period, the Mustangs came out strong to start the second. The team was hungry on the puck and all over the Lancers.

Midway through the period, Mustangs were able to capitalize on the powerplay. Jack Tucker picked up the loose puck in the corner and made an excellent cross-ice pass to Christiano Aiello, who shot it past Nathan Torchia, Lancer's netminder.

Windsor created some momentum towards the end of the period and cut the Western lead down to one heading into the second intermission.

Mustangs started the third on the penalty kill, which allowed Windsor to find the equalizer just one minute into the final period.

It was a back-and-forth third, with big saves and good opportunities coming from both ends of the rink.

With under seven minutes left in the game, Owen Saye beat Torchia with a shot taken just over the blue line to give the Mustangs their lead back and guarantee them the two points.

Western will host the Lancers tomorrow afternoon (Nov 18) at 3 PM. Mustang fans can buy their tickets at WesternMustangs.ca/tickets. Students get FREE admission to all regular season on-campus games with their Western ONECard.
