Mustangs win 2-1 in overtime against the Gaels

Kingston, ON- Mustangs took the game to overtime for the first time this season and came out on top, beating Queens 2-1.

The Mustangs had a rough first period. Queen's net presence was causing Western many issues, and most of the period was spent in the Mustangs zone. The Gaels went up 1-0 halfway through the period.

Mustangs created some good chances towards the end of the period. The team was retrieving the puck well and did a great job at backchecking.

The remainder of the first went back and forth, although the Gaels were able to keep the Mustangs off the scoresheet after twenty minutes of play.

Western's second period was much stronger and consisted of more offensive zone time. Around the five-minute mark, the team looked to have gotten a spark, and the urgency levels had risen immensely.

The pace slowed down as the period went on, but a late powerplay opportunity got the Mustangs back into the game.

Mustangs' equalizer was thanks to a breakout pass down the middle of the ice to Jack York, who then set up Reed Morison, who made no mistakes when shooting it glove side into the back of the net.

The Mustangs took four consecutive penalties in the third period, although they demonstrated an incredible penalty kill. They weren't allowing Queens any time to set up and were causing the Gaels alot of frustration.

The third period remained scoreless, and so the Mustangs went into overtime for the first time this season.

There were chances for both teams, causing the goalies on either end to have to make some big saves.

Ultimately, Western came out with the extra point as Noah Danielson was the overtime hero for the Mustangs this afternoon, scoring his second of the weekend.
