Kingston, ON - After a well fought battle by the Mustangs, the Gaels took the victory, 5-1.

Tonight the Western Mustangs faced off against the Queen's Gaels for their second regular season game. Last match up ended with the Gaels taking victory, 3-0, and tonight the Mustangs looked to make it even.

The first minutes of the starting period in the game saw great energy from both teams and much back and forth action. Seven minutes into the first period, the home team Gaels open the scoring off a rebound shot on Mustangs goalie, Ella Brabrook. Gaels Scout Watkins-Southward got the first one for her team.

The second goal of the game came shortly after the first, also from the Gaels. After a crash towards the net, the Gaels lead 2-0 with credit going to Taya Leonard. This quick two goal lead from the Gaels put the pressure on the Mustangs to get one in the back of the Gaels net.

The Mustangs responded back to the momentum that the Gaels brought through their two goals by getting one of their own. Haylie Kirkpatrick took an amazing shot which turned into the Gaels lead tightening by one. Gaels were now up 2-1, which is how the first ended.

The second period opened with many chances for both teams to increase the scoreboard numbers, but neither could capitalize on the opportunities.

The rest of the second period was much like the beginning of the first; there was back and forth action with both teams applying pressure to the other, but no goals. This ended when the Gaels got their third goal of the night from Sophie Hudson. To continue this momentum, the Gaels then got their fourth of the game just before the second period ended. Gaels Carys Collie got the fourth goal for her team.

The period ended with the score 4-1 for the home team.

The third period started with the Mustangs feeling the pressure put on the Gaels from their three goal lead. Brabrook had many crucial saves for her team and the Gaels were on a high after their two quick goals at the end of the second.

There was no further action for the majority of the last period until five minutes before the game ended when the Gaels increased their lead further by a fifth goal. Sara Di Filippo from the Gaels got this third period goal.

The buzzer sounded to signal the end of the game with the final score as 5-1 for the Gaels.

The Mustangs next game will be tomorrow December 2nd, against the York Lions in Toronto at 7:15pm. Be sure to check out the live action of that game at OUA.tv.
