WINDSOR, ON - The Western Mustangs record yet another win as they close out their 2023 with the team's third-straight victory over the Windsor Lancers, up 96-71.
In the opening moments of the game against the Windsor Lancers, the Mustangs secured the opening possession and points, making an immediate impact.Â
However, the Lancers quickly pulled ahead by four points to start the first half of the quarter. The Mustangs responded swiftly, setting up a strong defense and narrowing the spread to tie the game.Â
Western went on their first run of the game, transforming a four-point deficit into a lead of the same margin with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter.Â
The first quarter concluded with the Mustangs in the lead at 21-15.

As the second quarter unfolded, the Mustangs held tight to their lead, extending it to eight points in the first three minutes of play.Â
Western maintained a steady lead throughout the high-intensity game, clearly frustrating the Lancers.Â
The Mustangs started gaining steady momentum as they pulled ahead to an 11-point lead, successfully stopping the Lancers from advancing.Â
Despite Windsor closing the gap to five points with two minutes remaining in the half, the Mustangs finished the second quarter with a lead of 46-38.

Into the second half of the match, the Mustangs continued displaying their dominance, starting an 8-0 run just over a minute into the quarter.Â
A Windsor timeout did little to halt the Mustangs' momentum as they extended their lead to 21 points with just over three minutes remaining in the third.Â
This quarter defined the game for the Mustangs, solidifying their lead as they continued asserting control.Â
Tensions ran high on the court as frustrations increased for the Lancers, and the third quarter concluded with the Mustangs leading 66-54.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Mustangs maintained their success, firing off shots under intense pressure and initiating yet another key run.Â
They extended their lead to 20 points with three minutes remaining and maintained a 22-point lead throughout the final minutes.Â
Western drew out all of Windsor's remaining energy, ultimately extending their lead to 25 points as they closed out the first half of the 2023 season with a 7-2 record in the regular season.Â
The final score stood at an impressive 96-71 in favor of the Mustangs.
