Toronto, ON - The Mustangs dominated the York Lions, 3-1, on the road.

After a tough loss to the Queen's Gaels last night, the Mustangs looked to take a win during their game against the York Lions.

The last time these two teams faced off against each other was late October when the Mustangs took the win 2-1, and they hoped to repeat history again tonight.

The Mustangs opened the scoring within five minutes of the first period. Alyssa Wouda got this first one for her team which set up the positive momentum for the Mustangs early on.

The Lions responded back to this goal five minutes later to tie the game up at 1-1. Lions' Abbey McMillan brought the game back to even scoring.

The Mustangs felt the pressure to regain their lead and put the Lions goalie, Emma Wedgewood on her heels with the many scoring opportunities the team generated. Not only were the Mustangs putting the puck on goal, but the Lions were also testing Ella Brabrook's, Mustangs goalie, skills as well.

The first twenty minutes came to an end with the scoring remaining 1-1, tied up.

The majority of the second period had very much back and forth action and east to west puck movement down the ice from both teams. There were great plays in each zone and both goalies were tested. The play continued on like this toward the middle of the period until Adeline Kristoff from the Mustangs took their lead back. A strong shot by Kristoff puts the puck in the back of the Lions net which put the Lions in the position to chase as the Mustangs lead, 2-1, going into the third.

The Mustangs and the Lions played well and fought hard during the third period. Many penalties were called in the third as the game started to get more physical as the Lions felt all the pressure as they tried to get the score back to even.

The Lions decided to pull Wedgewood as their last chance to tie the game up with two minutes left in the game. This backfired on them at Emma Thomas from the Mustangs got an empty net goal which solidified a two goal lead for the Mustangs.

The third period came to an end as the Mustangs took the game successfully, 3-1.

The Mustangs next game will be in the new year, January 5th, against the Windsor Lancers at 7:30pm. Be sure to check out the live action of that game at OUA.tv.
