Box Score London, ON- To begin their two game weekend, the Mustangs drop a loss to the Brock Badgers, 3-1.
Your Western Mustangs face off against the Brock Badger's tonight in their second last home game in the regular season.
The puck drops and the Mustangs start with strong energy off the bat. With five minutes into the first period, the first penalty of the game is drawn by the Badgers, giving the Mustangs a perfect opportunity to generate an opening goal. Although, the penalty comes to an end with the score remaining at zeros. Shortly after, the Mustangs draw their first penalty of the game, switching the advantage over to the Badgers. Even with many scoring opportunities generated by the Badgers, the Mustangs goalie, Kaitlyn Booth, shuts them all down keeping the score tied up as the penalty comes to an end. Kaitlyn Booth is playing exceptionally well tonight as the Badgers are up 10-1 in shots and the score remains at 0-0. With 2 minutes left in the first period, the Badgers come into the Western zone with a one on one play and produce the opening goal for the game with a bar down goal. The Mustangs offense had started off strong in the first period but need to gain momentum for the second period in order to generate more shots on goal and potential scoring opportunities.
Shortly after the second period begins, the Badgers increase their lead from an unexpected goal that slips into the Mustangs net. The score is now 2-0, Badgers, with much of the game left to go. The Mustangs are feeling the pressure as the Badgers gain momentum, and with this momentum, comes another Badger goal. To bring the scoreboard up to 3-0, the Badgers take a rebound shot while Booth is down to advance their lead in the game all less than five minutes into the second period. The Mustangs offense begins to fight back, eager to close this lead. With about ten minutes left in the second period, the Mustangs get their first goal of the game! A rebound shot by Brooke DiCicco after a shot from the blue line gets the Mustangs on the scoreboard, and the score is now 3-1. With this momentum, much of the play of the game is in the Badger's zone as the Mustangs start applying pressure back to the opposing team. At this point in the period, the Mustangs now lead in shots 7-6, turning the game around. The clock winds down to zero in the second period as the score remain the same, 3-1, in favour of the Badgers
The third period, starts with back and forth action on the ice. The Mustangs generate several thrilling score opportunities as the period goes on, as the shots on goal are in their favour, 7-2, but the team is having problems executing the play. Both schools are eager to advance their score in this game as it is nearing the end. With half of the first period left, the Mustangs are dominating the game over the Badgers in attempts to close the two goal lead. With three minutes left in the period, Booth is pulled and the Mustangs are playing with an empty net and an additional player in hopes to get another goal before the buzzer sounds. Unfortunately, no change in the game comes from these efforts and the final score is 3-1, Badgers.
