Box Score

London, ON- The Mustangs win a well deserved game 1-0, against the Waterloo Warriors.

This game against the Waterloo Warriors will finish off the Mustangs two game weekend. Last night, they fell to the Brock Badgers 3-1, therefore, tonight they are looking for a victory. The Warriors and the Mustangs are currently tied in wins against each other this season. This game, one team is looking to break that tie.

The period starts off with back and forth action on the ice as both teams are evenly matched up, as we have seen from their history. The Mustangs put on a heavy fore check during the first few minutes of the period. Coupling this, the Mustangs defense puts pressure in the Warrior's zone as well. With several thrilling scoring opportunities in the Warrior's zone, the Mustangs just can't capitalize on any of these opportunities to get the opening goal. A few penalties are drawn in the first period, but both teams penalty kills keep the score at 0-0. The first comes to an end with many plays in both zones of the ice, but neither team getting the puck in the back of the net. The Mustangs clearly dominated in the period, although the Warrior's goalie, Kara Mark, is keeping her team in the game.

The Mustangs are eager to get the opening goal in this game and gain momentum to hopefully come victorious. As the second period starts, the same back and forth, neutral, stop and go action is what fills the first half of the second. Both goalies are playing a great games, which is why the score remains at 0-0. The Warrior's getting frustrated with the great plays of the Mustangs, as it is a similar situation in the first period where the Mustangs are dominating the game. Many scrambles at the front of the net as well as many overall scoring opportunities for both teams, but as the horn sounds ending the second period, the game remains tied at zero.

The last twenty minutes of the game starts as both teams are hungry to get the first goal of the game. Right off the bat of the third period, both the Mustangs and the Warrior's have amazing goal scoring opportunities within a couple minutes of each other. The Mustangs then rush into the Warrior's zone with a two-on-one opportunity that gets them the first goal of the game. Samantha Wood from Selena Dirven and Haylie Kirkpatrick generates the opening goal of the game for the Mustangs! The team now has momentum and is ready to take this game victorious. The score now is 1-0, in favour of the Mustangs. With two penalty calls against the Mustangs, the Warrior's have a five on three advantage for less than a minute during the third period. This gives the Warrior's a chance to tie the game up. Although, the Mustangs penalty kill allows the game to remain 1-0 after this five on three is over. The Warrior's are desperately searching for a goal at this time as there is five minutes left in the third period. With a minute left in the third, the Warrior's decide to pull their goalie to get a one player advantage. Fortunately, this does not rattle the Mustangs as the third period buzzer goes which leaves the Mustangs victorious, 1-0.

The Mustangs next game will be Friday, February 10th, against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 7:00pm. Be sure to check out the live action of that game at OUA.tv.
