Mustangs Locker Rooms at the Stadium Get Upgrade

London, ON - Investing in our signature spaces is an important piece of the Western Sports & Recreation new strategic plan, Game Plan 2028

One recent project is the Locker Rooms in the Kirkley building at Western Alumni Stadium. This space recently went through a much-needed revitalization and was given many new upgrades including new rubberized flooring throughout the space, new washrooms, over 100 new lockers, ventilation and fans were upgraded, and new painting and cosmetic touch-ups were completed.

The upgrade began in 2022 and finished in early 2023, in time for the new Fall season. This $225,000 investment into the space was strongly supported by our incredible Western Mustangs donors, community supporters, parents of our Mustangs football players, and friends of the Mustangs Football program, who helped to fund the locker upgrade as well as the floor and fans.

In addition, the project saw investments by Western University and the Western Mustangs, who took the opportunity to ensure that the space was more workable for the Football team, and other teams who utilize the space.

"I think one of the huge benefits was the opportunity to reconfigure the room to be more optimal for meeting before, mid and after games as a team and have everyone gather together," said Western Mustangs Head Football Coach, Greg Marshall. "Having our spaces renewed and upgraded helps to build a sense of pride within our Mustangs Football community. The new locker rooms, named after our long-time Football supporter Tom Whealy, will help to enhance our students' experience. We are very grateful for all the support that the University and the community provide to the team, which allows us to stay focused on our game plan."

"We look forward to continuing to upgrade more of our signature spaces, as we operate and renew safe, accessible and inclusive world-class recreation facilities and amenities, in-line with our strategic plan." – Christine Stapleton, Director, Sports & Recreation, Western University
