London, ON – The Mustangs won the battle of the undefeated teams over Windsor, 21-10 on Saturday afternoon in a hard-fought battle.
"That is exactly what I told our players all week, when we get into positions to kick field goals Brian's (Garrity) gotta make field goals and we need to stay disciplined," said Mustangs Head Coach Greg Marshall "It was a good grind and they're (Windsor) a good football team and kind of how I expected the game to go,"
Western held the Lancers scoreless in the second half with the key scoring dagger coming with just over 9 minutes remaining in the 4
th quarter on a 30-yard TD catch by Seth Robertson.
Mustangs Kicker Brian Garrity fought off an early missed field goal and went on to kick four times on the day including a clutch 48-yard strike with 1:40 left in the 4
th quarter which pushed the Mustangs lead to a two-score game and secured the win.
"I'm so glad I got a chance to do that, I'm glad the coaches had the trust in me to deliver," said Garrity "It was a tough start to the game but when you get those chances you can make up for it and I think I did a good job there,"
GAME RECAP
The first half saw both sides jockeying for position with Brian Garrity getting a pair of field goals and a safety as the lone scoring of the half.
The Lancer got the only touchdown of the opening half when J. Cunningham returned a punt 80 yards for the score and Windsor held a 10-8 advantage at halftime.
Neither side could add to the score in the 3
rd quarter but the Mustangs started the quarter with a massive highlight when Jackson Findlay got an interception as Windsor was threatening in the Western end.
After Garrity added his third FG of the day just past the 9 minute mark of the 4
th quarter, the Mustangs would regain the ball and QB Evan Hillock connected with Robertson to give Western a 15-10 lead.
Just over a minute later, Garrity would connect on his first 48 yard score of the day and extend the Western lead to 18-10 & then with just over two minutes left, almost everyone expected the Mustangs to send out punter Aj Williamson, but Marshall had other ideas and sent Garrity out to kick the deep shot again and the Mustangs kicker came through with the second 48 yard shot to take a 21-10 lead and the win.

Western will return to action on October 14
th when we host the Toronto Varsity Blues for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are on sale at WesternMustangs.ca/tickets.
