Box Score St. Catharines, ON– Despite having eight powerplay opportunities, the Brock Badgers were able to keep the Mustangs off the scoresheet and win 3-0 in tonight's rare Thursday night game.
Dylan Myskiew was back in the net for the Mustangs tonight, as he has been recovering from an injury and has missed the past couple of games. Myskiew showed a dominating performance, stopping 32 of 35 shots.
The first period began with two quick Western powerplays, although they were unable to set up in the offensive zone and, therefore, generated few chances.
The Badgers spent a long period of time in the Mustangs zone before scoring their first goal of the evening seven minutes into the first period.
The Mustangs created some quality chances for themselves towards the end of the period, including some odd-man rushes, but could not find the back of the net.
Brock started the second period on the powerplay. Western's penalty killers did an excellent job of killing it, but the Badgers doubled their lead moments later.
The Badgers were creating many scoring chances, which caused Myskiew to have to make twenty saves before the game's halfway point.
Western was awarded a five-on-three powerplay but could not get the puck past the Badger's netminder. They then had four more powerplay opportunities in the second period.
The Badgers killed off a four-minute major penalty to start the game's final period. Despite showing physicality and speed in the third, hoping to spark some offence, the Mustangs could not get on the board in St. Catharines.
The Mustangs will welcome the Laurier Golden Hawks next Friday (Jan 26) for a 7 PM puck drop. Fans can buy their tickets at WesternMustangs.ca/tickets. Western students get free admission to all on-campus regular season home games. With their WesternONECard
