Box Score Guelph, ON - The Mustangs suffer a 2-1 defeat against the Gryphons, on the road.
This past Thursday, the Mustangs fell the Guelph Gryphons, 3-2, in London and tonight they look to get a win.
The first half of the first period in the game saw much back and forth action as both teams are used to the others style from their recent match. The ice over at Guelph is much larger, as Head Coach Candice Moxley noted during last games post-interview, and it is notable in the play as both teams are passing much more.
Towards the end of the first period, the game still remains at 0-0 with the Gryphons dominating in shots, 14-2, but not being able to capitalize on any of those opportunities. The buzzer goes as both teams go back to the changerooms to regroup for the next twenty minutes.
About five minutes into the second period, the Gryphons broke the tied score as Jaime Magoffin got the first goal of the game and gave her team a lead, 1-0.
The Mustangs respond shortly after with a goal themselves. As two Gryphons were in the penalty box, the Mustangs took advantage of this opportunity and tied the game up 1-1. Together, Alyssa Wouda from Arnica Bulmer and Adeline Kristoff, successfully put the puck in the back of the Gryphons net.
The period came to an end with the score remaining 1-1 going into the third period.
The beginning of the third period is much like the first and second periods as no goals were scored on the opportunities that arose and much back and forth action existed between the two teams.
With five minutes left in the game, a pass across the Mustangs net is received by Brielle Caruso who rockets the puck into the Mustangs net and got the lead for her team, 2-1.
The Mustangs were now put on their heels as they had a short amount of time to tie the game up again in hope of pushing into overtime or taking the lead.
Unfortunately, the Mustangs did not get another goal and the Gryphons took the game, 2-1.
