Toronto, ON – The Mustangs hit the road for a midweek tilt against Toronto Metropolitan University on Wednesday night where they fell 4-1.
Western came in searching to bounce back after a 4-2 loss to Waterloo on Saturday, while TMU looked to extend their win streak to three.
TMU scored one goal in both the first and second periods and netted an early one in the third to go up 3-0 over Western. The 'Stangs found the back of the net on the penalty kill later in the third for their lone goal of the game. The Bold added one more to their tally before the final horn sounded.
Noah Danielson was on the board for Western off of a Jack Sander assist while goaltender Dylan Myskiw put up 42 saves in the loss.
The Mustangs found themselves on the penalty kill early on after taking a penalty on the opening shift. The purple and white kept the game scoreless to start, preventing the Bold from generating a shot with the man advantage.
With seven minutes remaining in the period, the 'Stangs were a man down yet again. The hosts found the back of the net seven seconds into their powerplay for a 1-0 lead.
Western's best chance of the period came shortly after as a nice give and go almost slipped through the five-hole, but the TMU goalie pulled off a balancing act to ultimately make the save.
Dylan Myskiw made 23 saves in the period as the score remained 1-0 at the end of the frame.
Western came out firing to start the second period, outshooting the hosts in blue 8-1. The purple and white had two chances with the extra attacker early on, but ultimately couldn't capitalize on their chances.
Halfway through the period, Myskiw made a big save on the penalty kill to keep Western within one.
The Bold started to pile on the pressure late in the period, and eventually found the back of the net to double their lead with just over five minutes remaining. The two sides exchanged penalties to end the frame as the score sat 2-0.
After netting their third goal five minutes into the third, TMU then went to the powerplay moments later.
However, it was Western who struck first.
On the penalty kill, a stunning aerial pass from Jack Sander was tamed by Noah Danielson as he sniped it for Western's first goal of the game.
Four minutes later, the hosts restored their three-goal lead as the game ended 4-1 in favour of the Toronto team.
With the loss Western drops to 7-18 on the season while TMU improves to 17-8.
