The first five minutes of the first period saw much energy from both teams being as this is the first game off of the winter break. The puck went back and forth between both teams zones.
Ella Brabrook, Mustangs goalie, had made several great plays for her team as the Lancers put some extra pressure on the Mustangs halfway through the first, as they hoped to get the first goal of the game.
Toward the end of the period, the Lancers drew a penalty which allowed for the Mustangs to dominate and put the Lancers on their heels. Unfortunately, no goal came from that penalty as the Lancers killed it off.
Although, with almost a minute left in the period, Gabrielle Lehoux scored an absolutely incredible goal on the Lancers. She stole the puck mid ice, raced down towards the goalie, skated around a Lancer defence and put the puck in the back of the net which opened the scoring of this game.
The end of the first came to an end with the Mustangs up 1-0, thanks to Lehoux.
The second period began with the Lancers clearly wanting to respond to that Mustang goal in the first as the team brought positive momentum.
The middle of the period came with no further scoring and the Lancers on their first powerplay of the game, which gave them the perfect opportunity to tie the game up. Although, the Mustangs penalty kill did not allow for this to happen and the penalty ended with no goal by the Lancers.
The end of the second twenty minutes of the game ended with the Mustangs up 1-0, just as the end of the first twenty minutes.

As overtime was looming on the ice, both the Mustangs and the Lancers were scrambling to get another goal in hopes to take the game. Neither team got this final goal, and the game was pushed to overtime.
