Box Score Windsor, ON - To end the weekend doubleheader against the Lancers, the Mustangs took the win 6 seconds into overtime, 1-0.
Tonight was the second game against the Lancers in the Mustangs vs Lancers weekend doubleheader. Last night, the Mustangs fell to the Lancers in overtime, 2-1, and tonight the look for the victory.
The first twenty minutes started out with good pace from both teams. The Lancers seemed to be dominating the play during the beginning of the first as much of the action was in the Mustangs zone.
The Mustangs switched from last nights strategy as they had put Brooke Vaccari in the net for this game. Vaccari had a few amazing saves as the Lancers generated opportunities in the Mustangs zone.
The first period ended scoreless with some great back and forth action from both teams. Many chances arose during the period but neither team could capitalize on them. Shots were 10 to 5 in favour of the Mustangs at the end of the first.
The second period began with both teams eager to score the first goal of the game. Although, halfway through the period the game remained scoreless. With many powerplay chances from both schools, still no puck in the back of any net.
Vaccari, yet again, made several great saves for her team towards the end of the second. She was the reason the Lancers were not up 1-0 at this point in the game.
The second period came to an end as the game still remained scoreless.
The last twenty minutes of the game started with both teams awaiting a goal. Similar action took place throughout the third period; back and forth action across the ice with many opportunities but neither team finished through on them.
Overtime loomed yet again on the ice as the third period came to an end for the fourth time this season between these two teams. Overtime seems to be a clear theme between the Lancers and the Mustangs.
With a minute left, there is much tension on the ice as both teams are scrambling to score. As they are unsuccessful, the game goes into overtime.
Six seconds into the overtime, the Mustangs get the first goal of the game to take the victory! Right off the faceoff, Adeline Kristoff took the game for her team.
