Box Score Toronto, ON – The Mustangs powered their way to a 61-6 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues in a rare Friday night game on the road.
Western had 443 yards of offence and scored seven TDs in the win.
"I was happy we had the opportunity to get plenty of guys into the game and I thought defensively that our kids played well tonight," said Mustangs Head Coach Greg Marshall "We had a short week to prepare for this one, they had two weeks to prepare for us but we didn't take them lightly because they're a good team and we needed to be prepped for them,"
QB Evan Hillock completed 18 of 26 pass attempts in the win, throwing for 243 yards and three TDs to three different receivers.
"We have four really good receivers in our starting unit and even our backups are really good so I was definitely trying to get the ball in their hands as much as I can," said Hillock "Definitely to spread out the love as much as I can,"
GAME RECAP
The Mustangs offence got moving early on, starting with a Keanu Yazbeck 8 yard TD run that saw him power his way through multiple tackle attempts from Toronto.
5 minutes later Western would find the end zone again, this time through the air when QB Evan Hillock found Seth Robertson from 8 yards out to push the Mustangs lead to 14-0.
In the 2
nd quarter Hillock would work the ball to another target, this time connecting with Mohsen Jamal from 31 yards to give Western a 22-0 lead.
"Mohsen did a great job to keep his feet in on that one," said Hillock
After a Brian Garrity field goal pushed the Western lead to 25-0, Hillock would find his third receiving target of the night in Brayden Misseri for a 24 yard TD catch and run that gave Western a 32-0 lead.
The final TD of the opening half came on a 1-yard TD run from QB Jérôme Rancourt who came in for the QB sneak and score and Western led 41-0 at the break.
In the third quarter the Mustangs would only get a lone Brian Garrity field goal. In the 4
