London, ON - The Mustangs displayed one of their most consistent effort in recent memory in a 4-1 over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday afternoon.
"I really liked our first two periods, I thought we controlled the pace and controlled the puck a lot," said Mustangs Head Coach Clarke Singer "In the third period I thought we had a couple big penalty kills that we did a good job on, overall a really good job by the guys,"
While they out shot Toronto in the opening period, neither side was able to find the back of the net. That changed early in the 2nd period when the Mustangs moved the puck around the offensive zone and then Jake Gravelle would send the puck on net and it found a way into the Brock net and gave Western a 1-0 lead.
Later in the 2nd period the play was almost a carbon copy when Gravelle again sent the puck on net, this time it found the stick of Eric Van Impe who was just on the outside of the goal crease and re-directed the puck into the Badgers net and extended the lead to 2-0.
Before the end of the 2nd period Brock would respond with a goal of their own and it was 2-1 as both teams went to the intermission.
Western didn't waiver though, later in the frame Jack Sander sent the puck on net and Aidan Prueter would re-direct it into the net and give Western back a two goal lead at 3-1.

"It definitely felt good seeing it cross the line, a nice re-direct into the net, while it was nice to score i'm happier we got the two points tonight," said Prueter
The Mustangs would add a late empty netter from Eric Van Impe to secure their second consecutive win of the year and third in the opening four games of the season.
"We had some great opportunities with some empty nets that big saves were made but I thought we did a good job just getting the puck to net tonight, that's something our skills coaches have been working with the guys on and finding some sticks and having the defence shoot off the net a little bit and we can see that translating in our game," said Singer.
The Mustangs head out on the road next weekend for a pair of games in North Bay against the Nipissing Lakers starting Friday night at 7:00pm. Fans can watch the games on OUA.tvÂ
