Mustangs take 2-1 win over Brock to advance in OUA playoffs

London, ON – The Mustangs Men's Soccer team is bound for the OUA quarterfinal bound after picking up a 2-1 win over Brock on Saturday night.

"Really happy with the performance, I thought we looked a little nervous in the first few minutes but after that I think we took control of the game and I think we executed in a lot of areas of the field," said Mustangs Head Coach Martin Painter "It was a really good team performance, really proud of the team,"

Western got the lone goal of the opening half in the 23rd minute when Fayo Adeyemo got the rebound on a Thomas Riberio shot and gave Western the early advantage.

"I told Thomas before the shot, just get this on target and I am going to crash the net," said Adeyemo of the goal "I had a feeling I was going to get a lucky bounce and that's exactly what it was,"

The Mustangs would extend their lead in the 58th minute on a Nic Ferriera goal to push Westerns lead to 2-0.

"It was a really good team goal, really good extended attack where we built a second phase and really good execution," said Painter "We knew they were a bit compact so we had some space wide and some great movement by Matthew Rogers and perfect cross and a good finish,"

Brock would ramp up their offence in the final 30 minutes, finding the net in the 78th minute but Western held their ground and secured the 2-1 win to advance in the playoffs.

The Mustangs will now play the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night in the OUA quarterfinal which will be played in Hamilton.

"We'll have a couple days to prepare for McMaster, physically I think we are in a good spot with a lot of depth and a lot of guys battling for spots and I am hoping the game today builds some more confidence and momentum going into Wednesday," said Painter.
