Three Mustangs score in double-digits but drop season opener to Ravens 97-75

Kicking off their Ontario University Athletics (OUA) 2024-25 season campaign, the Mustangs faced off against the Carleton Ravens. 

Western came out on fire, shooting 60% from the field in the first quarter. Noah Otshudi opened the scoring for the Mustangs and finished the quarter with 4 points while Milan John had a team-high 5 points. Carleton led by only 2 points.

The 2nd quarter continued to see the game swing back and forth, both teams shooting well from the field and tightening up on defense. 

John and Otshudi led the charge for the Mustangs, each with 10 points to close out the first half. Second-year guard Mikyle Malabuyoc also stepped up with 9 points and 2 assists. The Ravens led 46-42 going into the break. 

Carleton got out to a fast start in the third quarter, leading by as much as 18 points. They continued to extend their lead on the Mustangs, closing out the game 97-75. 

John led the Mustangs with 18 points going 6-6 from the free throw line, while Otshudi and Malabuyoc added 16 points each and Matteo Zagar pulled down 9 rebounds.
