Box Score The Mustangs kicked off their 2024-25 Onatrio University Athletics' (OUA) season on the road against the Carleton Ravens.
The Ravens came out playing with great pace in the first quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 13-5 halfway through.
Western's transfer from McMaster, Jenna Button scored her first points as a Mustang to open their account this season. Emily Capretta also got her season underway with a transition three followed by a driving layup finish to cut the Ravens lead to 7.
Carleton owned the paint in the first quarter, where they scored 20 of their 26 points. The Ravens continued to put the pressure on the Mustangs, out-rebounding them by 16 points in the first half and capitalizing on points in the paint to extend their lead to 22.
Button put on a second quarter show, adding 10 points including a three and a couple of contested layups under the rim. Heading into the half-time break, the Ravens led 58-36.
Throughout the third quarter, Carleton continued to press the Mustangs, forcing turnovers and limiting Western to one second chance point. Carleton led 72-48 going into the fourth quarter and would close out the game winning 91-59.
Button starred for Western in her debut game in the purple and white with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Capretta finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals to start her season.
