London, ON - The Mustangs Women's Hockey team faced a tough 7-1 loss against the Nipissing Lakers Saturday night.
The Lakers took an early lead, scoring just 30 seconds into the game. Despite the setback, the Mustangs maintained strong puck possession in the Lakers' zone but couldn't capitalize. Nipissing extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal at 10:08 in the first period.
Reflecting on the period, Head Coach Candice Moxley noted, "We gave one up early, and there was some penalty trouble."
In the second period, the Lakers struck again at 3:10, widening the gap. The Mustangs created scoring chances with pressure and scrambles near the net, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Lakers pulled away further, netting their fourth goal at 13:04, followed by two quick goals at 17:49 and 18:09, ending the period with a 6-0 lead.
The third period saw the Lakers starting with a penalty, giving the Mustangs a chance to respond. At 11:47, Gabrielle Lehoux broke through with a goal, assisted by Arnica Bulmer.
However, Nipissing added a final goal with just 14 seconds left, sealing a 7-1 victory.
Coach Moxley praised the team's effort, stating, "[The team] played well throughout the entire game, which was more than we could have asked for."
