On Wednesday, November 13th, the Mustangs traveled to Toronto to take on the TMU Bold.Â
Both teams came out firing from the 3PT line, a total of 9 threes were made in the first quarter. Western trailed by 3 heading into the 2nd quarter, both teams playing at a fast pace and shooting the ball well, 22-25. Lucas Sheets led with 7 points.
The Mustangs changed into a 2-3 zone in the 2nd quarter, and that stalled the Bold offense. The Western offense continued to fire, Lucas Sheets knocking down a couple 3's and Matteo Zagar working down in the low-post. The pair were both scoring in double digits going into the break. Western built their lead to five points, leading 44-39 at the half.Â
In the third quarter, Western continued to work with the zone, forcing the TMU to play an uncomfortable offense. Western came out of the break on a 9-3 run, extending their lead to as much as 11 points. The Bold continued to fight back, but Western went into the fourth quarter leading by 4 points, 66-62.
The game continued to swing either way in the fourth quarter. Noah Otshudi got going, getting to his spots at the elbow and knocking down the jumpshots. He finished the night with 15 points on 7-15 shooting from the field. The zone defense continued to shut down the Bold offense, but they found other ways to score. TMU out-hustled the Mustangs and scraped by, taking the win 91-83.Â
The Mustangs continue their Toronto road trip against the Toronto Varsity Blues at 8PM EST on Saturday, November 15th.Â
