On Saturday night, the Mustangs looked to finish their Toronto road trip with a win against the Varsity Blues.Â
The Mustangs got up and running from the 3PT line, with Jenna Button and Kailey Reimer knocking down threes. They raced to a 10-2 lead 3 minutes into the contest and continued that momentum throughout the quarter. They shot 5-11 from 3PT range, led by Emily Capretta and Jenna Button who each had 8 points.Â
The Mustangs continued to build on their exceptional first quarter. They extended their lead to 21 points heading into the break, despite cooling off from the 3 PT line. They found other ways to score, out-rebounding the Varsity Blues and sinking 17 of 22 free throws.Â
UofT came out hustling in the third quarter, going on a 11-6 run. They started driving to the basket and drawing fouls at the rim. They cut the Mustangs lead to 12 points heading into the fourth quarter. Jenna Button, Sarah Harvey and Emily Capretta were all scoring in double-digits.Â
In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs made their first threes since the first quarter. Jenna Button got going to close out the game for the Mustangs and stifling any hope the Varsity Blues in making a comeback. She finished the night with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Western built their lead back up to as much as 30 points, taking the game 85-57.
