Saturday evening, the Mustangs took on the Queen's Gaels in Kingston, ON. They got out of the gates running the floor well and moving the ball on offense.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Matteo Zagar led the Mustangs with 4 points at the end of the first. Western held on to a 1-point lead heading into the 2nd quarter, 18-17.
Milan John got going on both ends of the court for the Mustangs. He knocked down a couple of threes and then took a charge on the defensive end of the floor. His energy set the tone and the rest followed suit.
Western continued to work on offense, sharing the rock. Mikyle Malabuyoc, who's been the floor general this season, distributed 5 assists at the half. Western led by as much as 12 points, but Queen's cut it to 3 going into the break, 36-33. Milan John led the Mustangs with 12 points and Noah Otshudi had 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The third quarter saw both teams going back and forth. Western hung on to a 1-point lead heading into the fourth quarter 58-57.
Malabuyoc got going in the fourth quarter, showing off his finishing skill around the rim. He finished the night with 14 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Queen's hung on to win 86-77.
