Mustangs double up RMC 6-3 to sit 1st in OUA West

London, ON - The Mustangs Men's hockey team took a well deserved win on home ice against the RMC Paladins, winning their game 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. 

The first period started off with an early penalty from the Western Mustangs. The Mustangs were able to score their first goal of the game at 2:59 in the first period by Lawson Sherk, assisted by Jack Sander.

The Paladins were able to even the score at 11:24 in the first period after a scramble in front of the net.

The Mustangs were able to take the lead at 19:15 in the first period with a goal from defenceman Franco Sproviero.

The score after the first period was 2-1 for the Mustangs. 

The second period started off with both teams fighting for dominance, and the Mustangs forcing multiple scrambles in front of the net. The Mustangs scored their third goal of the game at 9:25 in the second period by left wing Nicholas Yearwood.



With just over three minutes left in the second period, Brett Willits scored his first goal of the game assisted by Nicholas Yearwood at 16:47 in the second period.



The score after the second period was 4-1 for the Mustangs. Head Coach Clarke Singer states that the team "always has the toes forward mentality in order to try and win every period." 

The third period started off with a goal from the Paladins, making the score 4-2. Five minutes in, the Paladins were able to score their third goal of the game, bringing the score to 4-3. At 14:15 in the third period, the Mustangs scored their fifth goal of the game, by Christiano Aiello assisted by Franco Sproviero.



At 19:09, a pass from Drew Wawrow gave Christiano Aiello an opportunity for an empty net goal, bringing the score to 6-3. Assistant Captain Jack Sander states that the team is "taking tonight's win and looking to bounce back against TMU on Friday."
