Box Score LONDON, ON -

On Wednesday evening, the Mustangs returned home looking to go into the new year on a high against the Brock Badgers.

Brock built an early lead against the Mustangs defense that was slow to get set. They eventually caught up, with four Mustangs knocking down threes in the quarter. They lead 21-19 after the first.

In the second quarter, the Mustangs defense took full flight, forcing 13 turnovers at the half. Emily Capretta led with 4 steals, and Annie Balfe and Avarie Thomas each had 3. Balfe also led the Mustangs offense, scoring 16 points on 6-8 shooting. Western went on an 11-0 run to close out the half, leading 41-36.

Western came out of the break picking up where they left off, extending their lead to as much as 17 points. Kailey Reimer had a great third quarter, drawing fouls under the basket and knocking down threes. She went into the fourth quarter with 16 points and 4 rebounds, while Western led 63-53.

They continued to feed off of the momentum, pulling away from the Badgers. Reimer, Jenna Button and Paris Alexander all knocked down back-to-back threes to extend the lead to 16. The Mustangs coasted on that lead to close out the game 89-81.

Rookie forward Annie Balfe had her best outing as a Mustang, finishing with 19 points and 4 steals. She was proud of the defensive effort her team showed, as Western forced 23 turnovers. "I think it just shows how much effort we put into the game and shows just how much we've been working and we're really starting to play as a team, so I'm really happy for that", said Balfe.

Reimer, who had her career-high 22 points tonight highlighted how much the team enjoyed being out there and having fun on defense. "I think it was just a really fun game. You can see they were getting frustrated because our defense was executing. I think it was a really good team win and a good way to go into 2025", said Reimer.

The Mustangs earned their sixth consecutive win and head into the holiday break with 7 wins and 4 losses. They are back in action January 10th, 2025 at 6PM EST against the Algoma Thunderbirds. Tune in OUA.tv.
