St. Catharines, ON - The Mustangs started their weekend on the road, against the Brock Badgers. The Badgers took the victory, 3-2, over the Mustangs at the end of the game.

The first period didn't start ideally for the Mustangs, as Haylie Kirkpatrick had a penalty call for slashing just 2 minutes into the game. Brock scored their first goal of the night 7 seconds into the power play and took the early lead.

The Mustangs responded back to the early momentum with a goal from Kate Martin at 9:00. Martin went down against 3 defenders from the home team and scored a goal for the Mustangs with an excellent slot shot, assisted by Barnard and Rai.

The first period was fast-paced and ended with a tied game.

The second period started with both teams having high energy. The first goal of the period came quickly at 5:43, from Brock.

Western received their second penalty of the night with 20 seconds remaining in the period for hooking. Brock capitalized and scored just four seconds into the power play.

The Badgers were now up 2, 3-1, which is how the period ended.

The third period, Sydney Hood from Brock got a double minor for head contact at 12:41, giving Western a 4-minute extended power play opportunity.

Shortly after, during the penalty kill, Brock received another penalty for boarding on Allison Moore.

This gave the Mustangs a great man advantage, 5 on 3, to get on the scoreboard. After a couple of attempts with the puck hitting the post, Elizabeth Gauthier passed the puck to Gabrielle Lehoux and helped Western put the puck into the net!

Our goalie, Brooke Vaccari, made 18 saves out of 21 shots tonight.

The game ended with Brock winning over the Mustangs, 3-2.

Next Game:

The Mustangs will play their final game of the 2024 season on Saturday, November 30, at 2:30 PM, facing off against the Guelph Gryphons.
