Guelph, ON – Saturday afternoon marked the Mustangs' final road game in 2024 season at Guelph. The Mustangs suffered a tough loss to Guelph on Saturday afternoon as Guelph had a late-game comeback in the final frame.
Just 26 seconds into the game, Mustangs Haylie Kirkpatrick scored an early goal, assisted by Janique LaBossiere. This gave the Mustangs an early lead heading into the opening period.
At 14:26, captain Madelaine DesRosiers netted her fifth goal of the season, with an assist from Adeline Kristoff, helping Western extend their lead to 2-0.
Leah Barnard got a penalty call for hooking at 19:26, giving Guelph a power play to start the second period.
The period ended with Western holding a two-goal advantage.
The Gryphons started the second period with a power play carried over from the first period; however, they couldn't capitalize.
Guelph received three penalties during the period, which gave Western a total of six minutes of power play opportunities. The Mustangs had a hard time to use the player advantage and couldn't get on the scoreboard.
Guelph had seven shots in the period, but none effectively scored.
Both teams were scoreless in the second period.
Both teams fought hard and put pressure on each other in the third period, with the Mustangs trying to maintain their lead and Guelph attempting to score.
Seven minutes into the period, Jaime Magoffin from Guelph cut the lead to 2-1. With just 52 seconds remaining, Guelph Chihiro Suzuki tied the game.
The late goals put the Mustangs on their heels as the home team showed their hunger to win.
Western suffered a tough loss as Alexie Olivier scored Guelph's third goal at 19:55 in the period, 3-2.
The Mustangs wrapped up their final away game of the 2024 season with the whistle.
