Box Score London, ON- The Mustangs make a come back against the Gryphons and come out victorious, 96-88.
The Mustangs faced off against the Gryphons tonight on home court. After coming off of a loss on Seniors Night last weekend, the Mustangs hope for a win tonight.
The first quarter started off strong with the Mustangs establishing a lead early on. The home team played extremely strong defence not letting the Gryphons close to the basket and making it hard for them to get many points.
The Mustangs remained with the lead for the majority of the first quarter. The Gryphons seemed to find it difficult to get past the strength of the Mustangs team. Although, the road team found their footing against the Mustangs and captured the lead toward the end of the first quarter.
The quarter ended with the score in favour of the Gryphons, 18 to 16.
The second quarter begins with the Mustangs hungry to take back their lead in the game. The Gryphons began to dominate the game as the Mustangs offence found it hard to capitalize on their opportunities at the basket. The Gryphons put the pressure on the Mustangs team.
The Mustangs continued to trail behind during the second quarter with a large point differential.
As the halftime approached, the Mustangs began closing the lead that the Gryphons held on them. Although, the Mustangs could not come back and the score remained in favour of the Gryphons, 50-41.
The third quarter saw much similar action as the first and second quarters. The Mustangs were putting in all efforts to take the lead of the game.
Several great players were made by the Mustangs putting the Gryphons on their heels and pushing them to call a timeout as the Mustangs shrunk the Gryphons lead to only 4 points, now a close game. The Mustangs defense has come back stronger against the Gryphons as well.
As the 2 minute mark hit in the third quarter, a lead change came as the Mustangs caught up to the Gryphons. Although they couldn't quite keep the lead as the quarter came to a close with the Gryphons up 69-67.
At this point in the game the Mustangs score leader is Tyson Dunn with 18 points followed by Noah Otshudi with 17 points. The Mustangs also saw 21 points come off of turnovers so far.
You could feel the tension on the court as the last 10 minutes of the game began and the point differential was extremely close, varying between 2 and 4 points, so anyone could take this game.
The Mustangs took a timeout in hopes take the victory in this game with 5 minutes left to go. The Mustangs continued to trail down by a small amount of points as the fourth quarter went on and occasionally took the lead over the Gryphons.
With a minute and half left, the Mustangs were up by 1, but much could changed by the time the buzzer goes.
Both teams continued to fight against each other to come out victorious.
The Mustangs created several amazing plays toward the end of the game which led them to come out with the win 96 to 88.
