Box Score

London, ON - An action packed game ended 4-1 in favour of the Varsity Blues against the Mustangs.

This afternoon, the Mustangs faced off against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

During the 2023-2024 season, these two teams have faced off once in the past, and the Varsity Blues successfully took that game 3 to 1. The Mustangs hoped to get even with this Toronto team.

The first period started off with great action within both zones. The Mustangs and the Varsity Blues both had amazing opportunities at their opponents net. Although, four minutes into the period, the Varsity Blues open the scoring with a shot taken close to the net by Emma Elders.

The Mustangs spent the rest of the period fighting back in hopes to get a goal tie up the game in the first. They were clearly outplaying the Varsity Blues throughout the first period as the majority of the action was in the away teams zone.

Both the Mustangs offence and the defence played extremely well with great backchecking and forechecking. Although, even with the majority of the play in the Varsity Blues zone, the Mustangs were finding it difficult to get the puck past Varsity Blues goalie, Erica Fryer.

With five minutes left in the period, the Varsity Blues made a quick play in front of the Mustangs net which got them their second goal of the game. Emma Irwin from the away team got this goal to boost the Varsity Blues up 2-0.

Shortly after this second goal, the Varsity Blues played off their positive momentum and got their third goal of the game from Ashley Delahey.

With a minute left in the first, the Mustangs responded back with a goal by Janique LaBossiere assisted by Kate Suitor. This boosted the Mustangs mentality in the game as the first period ended.

The first period ended with the Mustangs dominating the majority of the play but the Varsity Blues creating opportunities at the net and capitalizing on them. The score was 3-1 at the end of the period.

The second period saw no goals halfway into the period. There was similar back and forth chances action that we have seen all game with power play opportunities sprinkled in as well. Although, neither team could break through and get the next goal.

The second period came to an end with the score remaining 3-1 in favour of the Varsity Blues.

The third period opened with opportunities generated by both teams. Several great plays by the Mustangs in the Varsity Blues zone were created yet nothing was getting past Varsity Blues goalie.

The halfway mark came with the score remaining at 3-1 for the Varsity Blues.

With seven minutes left in the game, the Varsity Blues lifted the puck into the back of the Mustangs net for the fourth time. Sophie Grawbarger from the away team was responsible for this goal and brought the score to 4-1 for her team.

The game came to an end with the final score at 4-1 for the Varsity Blues.
