Box Score Waterloo, ON - After an action packed game, the Mustangs took the victory 6-4, against the Warriors.
Tonight marked the last regular season game for the Mustangs team. They faced off against the Waterloo Warriors.
The first period saw great scoring action from the start to finish.
The Warriors opened the scoring within three minutes of the period, putting the Mustangs on their heels as they started the game off with a bang.
Although, the Mustangs did not waste anytime to respond, two minutes later, Jake Gravelle, tied the game up 1-1, with help from Andrew Bruder and Christiano Aiello.
Following this Mustangs goal, the team got their second which allowed them to lead the game 2-1. Reed Morison pushed the puck into the back of the Warriors net to make the game in favour of the Mustangs
Although, the Warriors responded back much like the Mustangs did early on in the first with a goal for their team, which tied up the game, once again, this time at 2-2.
At about the halfway point in the period, the scoring did not die down, the Mustangs responded, again, with their third goal of the night from Tye McSorely. McSorely regained the Mustangs lead for his team against the Warriors, 3-2.
As the Mustangs carried on their positive momentum, they quickly get their fourth goal of the night, finally increasing their lead by two goals against the opposing team. Zach Power from the Mustangs widened his teams lead to 4-2.
After six goals in total, combined between both teams, the first period ended with a final score of 4-2 in favour of the road team, the Mustangs.
The second period started with amazing back and forth action as both teams fought to get the first goal in the second twenty minutes of the game. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Warriors were the team to do just that. They tightened the Mustangs lead as they brought themselves up to three goals.
The remained of the second period was much like the beginning of the period, with action between both zones and both teams fighting hard against each other.
Although, with five minutes left in the second, the Warriors tied up the game against the Mustangs. As the Mustangs had lost their two goal lead, they were feeling the pressure to respond as they have done earlier in the game.
The Mustangs could not get another goal before the period ended. The score after the first 40 minutes of the game was 4-4.
Both teams were fighting hard in the third period as the potential of overtime loomed on the ice. Halfway through the period, there were still no further goals, and the tension was building up.
The Mustangs broke this as Zach Power got his second goal of the night and snatched the lead of the game for the Mustangs. Shortly after this goal, Josh LeBlanc from the Mustangs solidified his teams lead with a goal, making the score 6-4 for the Mustangs.
Now that the Mustangs had a two goal lead against the Warriors, the possibility of overtime was no longer an issue. With five minutes left in the game, the Warriors fought back in hopes of getting two goals to tie up the game, or in hopes of getting three goals to win the game.
The Mustangs held strong and did not let the Warriors get any further goals. The game ended with a victory for the Mustangs, 6-4.
