SAULT STE. MARIE, ON -
Saturday afternoon, the Mustangs looked to extend their winning streak to eight games against the Algoma Thunderbirds.
The Mustangs got out to a brisk start, quickly building a 12-point lead. Unlike yesterday, Algoma's offense struggled to get going as they went 1-14 from the field in the first quarter. Western led 24-2 with 9 of those points from Emily Capretta.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs continued to light it up from all areas of the court. They outplayed the Thunderbirds, extending their lead at the half to 51-15.
In the third quarter, they continued to get contributions from Kailey Reimer, who found her stride from three-point range, finishing the night with three threes. Capretta, Paris Alexander and Payton Baker also made consistent scoring contributions, each finishing the night in double-digits. The Mustangs led going into the fourth quarter by forty points, 68-28.
They coasted home in the fourth quarter to earn their eighth straight win of the season, beating Algoma 80-52. After the Mustangs started off the season 1-4, they've since gone on eight consecutive wins to put them in 2nd place in the OUA West Division. They are back in action on Friday, January 17th at 6pm EST taking on the Guelph Gryphons. Tune in live on OUA.tv.
